The pianist, seated at his instrument, interprets pieces from the great classical repertoire while “drawing through playing,” thanks to the brain impulses linked to his emotional state, the pieces he performs, and his empathetic connection with the audience. The result is a graphic tableau tied to that specific moment, that specific piece, and that specific mental state. The brush that draws is connected to various neural elements determining color, thickness, and position on the screen. It does not serve as a commentary on the music but offers an opportunity to participate in the pianist’s empathetic flow not only through sound but also through a visual illustration generated by the pianist’s emotional state.
“What do you think about while playing?” is the driving question behind the performance, which explores the musician’s brain during the act of performance.
